Organizational Capacity Building
The communities of the Jiquilisco Bay region are highly organized. They have decades of experience identifying specific challenges followed by designing and implementing initiatives in support of a common goal. They do this dynamic and essential work in the face of scarce resources.
The Jiquilisco Bay Alliance works to directly support Asociación Mangle and Asociación Cincahuite to further community efforts by providing them with the organizational tools and training to make their work easier.In collaboration with our partners, JBA has also built and continues to maintain needed technical infrastructure, including Asociacion Cincahuties website and social media accounts. Having a visible online presence is essential for fundraising, and JBA is glad to be able to provide support to Asociacion Cincahute in this way. Going forward, we hope to be able to provide specific technical training in organizational sustainability and management, helping both Asociacion Mangle and Asocacion Cincahuite both grow and effectively manage their organizations, and thus their work in support of their communities. JBA strives to support the growth of the capacity of both organizations by providing unrestricted funding. In 2023 JBA provided $13,000 of unrestricted funding to Asociación Cincahuite, of which they used $7,000 to purchase their office building, which they had been previously renting. As a direct result, Asociación Cincahuite now has a small dormitory space in which to host visitors, as well as a private room for community members to receive personalized support.
In collaboration with our partners, JBA assisted Asociación Cincahuite to build a new website www.cincahuite.org and expand their social media presence, allowing them to tell their story digitally to their community and to a global audience. But, a website and a social media strategy mean little when most internet access in Puerto Parada comes from a weak mobile phone data signal. So the Jiquilisco bay Alliance provided high-speed satellite internet in 2023. We continue to cover the costs of web hosting and high-speed internet access.
Going forward, we hope to be able to provide specific technical training in organizational sustainability and management, helping both Asociación Mangle and Asociación Cincahuite grow and effectively manage their organizations.
